Collector's Notes

• Of the two X1's, the NA-TASI-HI generally commands the higher price due to demand by "name collectors," since it is the only patch made with this version of the lodge name. Both are tough issues.
• The F2a is the rarest of the lodge 71 patches.
• Among the "S" issues, the harder flaps are those made in smaller quantities (obviously), such as the S9 lodge 40th/OA 75th anniversary flap, the S12 "canoe" flap, and the NOAC issues.
• All of the Dance Team patches are tough, because they are "earned" pieces and the dance team is of modest size. The YR1 prototype was initially a private issue by members of the dance team; it is unclear whether they sought lodge authorization at the time. A few years later when the lodge executive board authorized an incentive program for the dance team, the YR1 design was accepted and an additional quantity of patches was purchased using lodge funds. Due to a change of manufacturer, the regular R1 is distinctly different from the YR1. Both R1 and R2 were issued as loose patches (for 50 hours of service) and sewn on neckerchiefs (for 50 additional hours of service).

• [2006 update] Within the last three years, a large number of fakes of older OA pieces have started to appear on eBay. Previously, there had been no fakes of Lodge 71 -- but now we have eight fakes! (The ZR1 is probably a different situation -- until more information is available we'll assume it is a manufacturer overrun with the "wrong color" border applied and distributed as a sample.)
• Blue Book 6 has continued the erroneous F6 listing, duplicated S26 and S27 and S28 and S29 and sequenced X7-12 incorrectly.  Frozen Fellowship Flaps starting in 2006 appear to have been "demoted" to event Flaps.
